Beyond the Struggle: Why You Can’t Kill a Self That Doesn’t Exist

Most spiritual journeys are lived in a state of constant inner war. We try to “destroy” the ego, “conquer” our thoughts, or “give up” our worldly attachments. But have you ever stopped to ask: Who is the one doing the giving up?

When the concepts, views, and ideologies we call “I” are revealed to be an illusion, the entire game of spiritual striving changes.

The Trap of Spiritual Effort

As long as we operate from a place of spiritual “doing,” we are trapped in a cycle of endless effort. The mind tells us:

  • “If I practice enough, I will kill my ego.”
  • “If I study enough, I will understand the world.”
  • “If I repress my feelings, I will finally find peace.”

This is the ego’s cleverest trick. It convinces you that if you just “do” one more thing, all your problems will be solved. In this way, the “self” makes you its slave—even while you are trying to be spiritual.

Stop Falling for the Illusion of Words

You have been on this path for a long time. Yet, the moment you begin to label your progress, you fall back into the trap of concepts.

True liberation isn’t about grasping a new truth or losing an old identity. You cannot lose what you never truly had. The “personal consciousness” you project as “I” simply does not exist in this universe. It is a mental projection—a phantom. To understand this is to find the end of the road.

Liberation is Not an Award for the Ego

One of the greatest mistakes in the search for truth is trying to “save” the person we think we are. You are projecting a non-existent “I” and then trying to find a way to make it free.

What you are holding onto is not a real, solid entity.

  • It is a dream.
  • It is a temporary mirage.
  • It is a form of mental madness.

You cannot take “yourself” to the finish line because the finish line is the realization that “you” were never there to begin with.

The Final Stillness

The struggle ends when the “I” is extinguished. This isn’t a violent act; it is the natural result of deep understanding. When you realize that the seeker is as much an illusion as the sought, the friction of life ceases.

You stop trying to destroy thoughts and start seeing them as passing clouds in an empty sky.

Free yourself from the madness of the chase. Stop trying to win, stop trying to lose, and simply dissolve into the truth of what remains. When the dreamer vanishes, the truth is finally revealed.
